BCLEOA is an organization made up of Members. It is not a commercial Shooting Range intended for use by customers. Each Applicant is reviewed and their eligibility for membership is determined solely by an affirmative majority vote of Members in good standing in attendance at the time of application. Membership is individual though Members are afforded privilege of bringing guests with them to the range and are legally responsible for their guests at all times while on Association property.
Applicants are encouraged to read the Association’s Bylaws and Range Rules noting that certain approved revisions and policy practices of recent years have not yet been fully incorporated into the text of the Bylaws. Substantive questions, if any, should be directed in advance of application to a member of the Executive Board. New member application procedure is described below.
Membership is generally restricted to residents of Beaufort County North Carolina. There are two primary classifications of membership. SWORN and Associate. “SWORN” refers to those currently employed or retired and have or have had Power of Arrest under any Law Enforcement Agency operating within Beaufort County NC in accordance with city, county, state or national charter. “Associate”, broadly, refers to any other citizen-resident of Beaufort County in good legal standing with or without current or past employment in law enforcement.
BCLEOA Application and Waiver Forms must be filled out and must be presented to the Executive Board prior to the beginning of the Association’s regularly scheduled meetings held in the on-premises Clubhouse at 7PM each Second-Tuesday of the month. These meetings are posted on the Range Calendar. Do not mail your application to the Associations address or PO Box.
Applicants for SWORN Membership should be prepared to present their agency credentials. Applicants for Associate Membership are required to present a recent Criminal Records Check from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office or evidence thereof in the form of current, non-expired Concealed Carry Permit issued by BCSO.
As part of regular meeting agendas, a call for and acknowledgment of any New Member Applications will be made under New Business. At this time a Board Member will read each Applicant’s name and highlights as written on the applications, as well as review and confirm credentials. Applicants will then be called upon by name to stand, introduce themselves, and say a few words about their interest in membership along with any contributions they foresee being able to bring to the association.
After all applicants have introduced themselves, they will be asked to ‘step-out’, removing themselves from the meeting space to afford membership a confidential opportunity to review, discuss, and determine by majority vote to accept, reject, or condition determination on further review or supplement. Applicants are then brought back into the meeting space to be advised of the vote outcome.
Membership is deemed completed upon payment of annual dues according to class of membership. Most often payment is done on the spot, but can be delayed with membership deferred until payment or any supplemental information required has been received. New members are issued the current-year membership card and current-year range gate key. BCLEOA membership runs annually from the second Tuesday of the year to the Monday immediately preceding it.
